THE POWER OF TOUCH

Massage Therapy: Effective Way To Deal With Stress
by Susan Tonneson

STRESS IS ONE OF the leading causes of disease, poor performance, and bad attitudes. More and more people are feeling overworked and under appreciated. Some side effects of a busy, hectic lifestyle are headaches, muscle aches, and moodiness. Massage therapy is a great tool to cope with stress.

Massage is more than a frivolous, feel-good indulgence. Massage therapy is becoming a fast-growing avenue to improving health. Over the past few years there has been an increased awareness of the benefits of massage. Five years ago there were less than 10 massage schools in the Twin Cities area, today there are between 35 and 40 schools offering massage therapy.

Massage is considered preventive healthcare. In some countries massage is included in healthcare insurance. Massage articles predict that in the future the United States will have healthcare plans that include massage.

Massage can help you maintain physical, mental, and emotional well being, especially when it is part of your wellness routine.

There are many ideas on how to incorporate massage into your regular routine. Massage at the work site is becoming common. Massage therapists bring their massage table or chair to the work place and give employees massages. A typical massage ranges from five to 15 minutes per person. Many businesses offer onsite massage once a month. Some businesses pay all or part of the massage. Other businesses organize the event, and the employees pay for the service themselves. Average price can be around $1 per minute. Kathy Anderson, employee at local business says, "Every month I sign up for a 10-minute massage. I look forward to it all week. I immediately feel better and I am more productive at work. I am so grateful my boss arranges to have the onsite massage."

Massage books are another way to start incorporating massage into your routine. Bookstores sell many books on how to give massages, and even how to do self massage.

Couples massage is popular and trendy. Two tables, side by side with two massage therapists. Couples massage is fun and healthy entertainment. "I surprised my wife with a couples massage. She absolutely loved it! It was fun and romantic," said John, a client at Balancing Touch Massage.

Stress is at an all time high. Put an end to feeling overworked and underappreciated, give yourself the gift of massage and relaxation! Massage not only feels wonderful, it is wonderful for you!
